Osama bin Laden's Al-Jazeera TV Broadcasts
Editor's Comments
©September11News.com

On October 7, 2001, shortly after U.S. forces began retaliatory strikes against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan,
the controversial Arabic television news network A-Jazeera, based in Qatar, broadcast a statement by Osama
bin Laden. The statement was likely taped at least a day prior to the strikes. The statement is taped during
daylight hours, however the attacks began when it was already late evening and dark in Afghanistan.

We offer two versions of the translation of this statement. The first translation, as written by the Associated
Press, and reported by USA Today, appears to leave out some content. However this version appears to be an
easier read in English. The second version, as reported by ABC News, is more coarse in translation, even noting
inaudible portions. However, the ABC News version appears to be more complete.

Shortly after the Al-Jazeera broadcast, the US Government advised national news networks to consider
delay of subsequent broadcasts to determine their actual news worthiness. A White House spokesman called
the October 7th broadcast "propaganda, at best", and indicated that these statements may also contain
hidden messages to the terrorist network. The networks have agreed to be more prudent with future
broadcasts.

By studying the text of the versions below, it does appear that certain words and places are mentioned
that seem unconnected or unrelated to current events. An example of this is Osama bin Laden's reference to
Andalucia, mentioned early in version two reported by ABCNEWS.com.  Andalucia is an area in southern Spain,
with a history of war between Muslims and Northern "Vandals" (Andalucia is named after these vandals).
These battles date to 711 A.D., and seem misplaced in the events of the last century.

In addition to the October 7, 2001 Osama bin Laden TV broadcast, this page includes excerpts and images of
other Osama bin Laden Al-Jazeera TV broadcasts on November 3, 2001, and December 26, 2001.

Osama bin Laden' health appears to deteriorate with each new videotape broadcast. The December videotape
clearly shows bin Laden with a whiter beard and a gaunt face. Significantly, bin Laden, who is left-handed, does
not move his left hand or his left side in the 34-minute video.

Text of Osama bin Laden's taped remarks, aired on an Arab television station after the U.S. and British strikes
Sunday. The remarks, which refer to the Sept. 11 terror attacks on New York and Washington, appear to have
been made before Sunday's strikes. The text is translated from the Arabic. - USATODAY.com

I bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Mohammad is his messenger.

There is America, hit by God in one of its softest spots. Its greatest buildings were destroyed, thank God for
that. There is America, full of fear from its north to its south, from its west to its east. Thank God for that.

What America is tasting now is something insignificant compared to what we have tasted for scores of years.
Our nation (the Islamic world) has been tasting this humiliation and this degradation for more than 80 years.
Its sons are killed, its blood is shed, its sanctuaries are attacked, and no one hears and no one heeds.

When God blessed one of the groups of Islam, vanguards of Islam, they destroyed America. I pray to God to
elevate their status and bless them.

Millions of innocent children are being killed as I speak. They are being killed in Iraq without committing any
sins, and we don't hear condemnation or a fatwa (religious decree) from the rulers. In these days, Israeli
tanks infest Palestine — in Jenin, Ramallah, Rafah, Beit Jalla, and other places in the land of Islam, and we
don't hear anyone raising his voice or moving a limb.

When the sword comes down (on America), after 80 years, hypocrisy rears its ugly head. They deplore and
they lament for those killers, who have abused the blood, honor and sanctuaries of Muslims. The least that can
be said about those people is that they are debauched. They have followed injustice. They supported the
butcher over the victim, the oppressor over the innocent child. May God show them His wrath and give them
what they deserve.

I say that the situation is clear and obvious. After this event, after the senior officials have spoken in America,
starting with the head of infidels worldwide, Bush, and those with him. They have come out in force with their
men and have turned even the countries that belong to Islam to this treachery, and they want to wag their tail
at God, to fight Islam, to suppress people in the name of terrorism.

When people at the ends of the earth, Japan, were killed by their hundreds of thousands, young and old, it
was not considered a war crime, it is something that has justification. Millions of children in Iraq is something
that has justification. But when they lose dozens of people in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam (capitals of Kenya
and Tanzania, where U.S. embassies were bombed in 1998), Iraq was struck and Afghanistan was struck.

Hypocrisy stood in force behind the head of infidels worldwide, behind the cowards of this age, America and
those who are with it.

These events have divided the whole world into two sides. The side of believers and the side of infidels, may
God keep you away from them. Every Muslim has to rush to make his religion victorious. The winds of faith
have come. The winds of change have come to eradicate oppression from the island of Muhammad, peace be
upon him.

To America, I say only a few words to it and its people. I swear by God, who has elevated the skies without
pillars, neither America nor the people who live in it will dream of security before we live it in Palestine, and
not before all the infidel armies leave the land of Muhammad, peace be upon him.

God is great, may pride be with Islam. May peace and God's mercy be upon you.

VERSION TWO
As Reported by ABCNEWS.com on Monday, October 8, 2001 01:13 AM EDT

This is an uncorrected transcript of a translation from Arabic to English of Osama bin Laden's response to
the start of military action against the Taliban in Afghanistan. This statement by bin Laden, videotaped prior
to the beginning of the military action, appeared on Al-Jazeera, the Arabic satellite station. - ABCNEWS.com

Let the whole world know that we shall never accept that the tragedy of Andalucia (ph) would be repeated in
Palestine. We cannot accept that! Palestine will become Jewish.

And with regard to you, Muslims, this is the day of question. This is a new (inaudible) against you, all against
the Muslims and Medina. So be like the followers of the prophet, peace be upon him, and all countrymen (ph),
lovers of God and the prophet within, and a new battle, great battle, similar to the great battles of Islam, like
the conqueror of Jerusalem. So, hurry up to the dignity of life and the eternity of death.

Thanks to God, he who God guides will never lose. And I believe that there's only one God. And I declare I
believe there's no prophet but Mohammed.

This is America, God has sent one of the attacks by God and has attacked one of its best buildings. And this is
America filled with fear from the north, south, east and west, thank God.

And what America is facing today is something very little of what we have tasted for decades. Our nation,
since nearly 80 years is tasting this humility. Sons are killed, and nobody answers the call.

And when God has guided a bunch of Muslims to be at the forefront and destroyed America, a big destruction,
I wish God would lift their position.

And when those people have defended and retaliated to what their brothers and sisters have suffered in
Palestine and Lebanon, the whole world has been shouting.

And there are civilians, innocent children being killed every day in Iraq without any guilt, and we never hear
anybody. We never hear any (inaudible) from the clergymen of the government (ph).

And every day we see the Israeli tanks going to Jeanine (ph), Ramallah, Beit Jalla and other lands of Islam.
And, no, we never hear anybody objecting to that.

So when the swords came after eight years to America, then the whole world has been crying for those
criminals who attacked. This is the least which could be said about them. They are people. They supported
the murder against the victim, so God has given them back what they deserve.

I say the matter is very clear, so every Muslim after this, and after the officials in America, starting with the
head of the infidels, Bush. And they came out with their men and equipment and they even encouraged even
countries claiming to be Muslims against us. So, we run with our religion. They came out to fight Islam with
the name of fighting terrorism.

People — event of the world — in Japan, hundreds of thousands of people got killed. This is not a war crime.
Or in Iraq, what our — who are being killed in Iraq. This is not a crime. And those, when they were attacked
in my Nairobi, and Dar Es Salaam, Afghanistan, and Sudan were attacked.

I say these events have split the whole world into two camps: the camp of belief and the disbelief. So every
Muslim shall take — shall support his religion.

And now with the winds of change has blown up now, has come to the Arabian Peninsula.

And to America, I stay to it and to its people this: I swear by God the Great, America will never dream nor
those who live in America will never taste security and safety unless we feel security and safety in our land
and in Palestine.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Following is the text of
parts of a videotaped statement made by
Saudi-born dissident Osama bin Laden
and broadcast on Qatar-based
al-Jazeera television on Saturday - Reuters.
"Those who refer our tragedies today to the United Nations for solutions there are hypocrites who are
deceiving God, his prophet and the believers. Are any of our tragedies not the making of the United Nations?
Who issued the resolution for the division of Palestine in 1947 and surrendered the land of Islam to the Jews?
It was the United Nations in its resolution in 1947.

Those who claim to be Arab leaders and are still (cooperating) with the United Nations are infidels in the eyes
of the message of Mohammad, God's blessings and peace be upon him. Those who refer issues to
international law (for a solution) have abandoned the law of (Islam's) holy book and the teachings
of the prophet.

We have suffered because of this United Nations, so no Muslim should resort to it under any circumstance. The
United Nations is a tool of crime. We (Muslims) are being slaughtered every day and it does not move.

Our brethren in Kashmir have been, for more than 50 years, subjected to torture. They have been slaughtered,
killed and their honor, blood and homes have been violated. And the United Nations does not move.

Today, without any evidence, the United Nations is pedaling resolutions in support of America, the oppressive
despotic tyrannical (country) against the weak who have just emerged from a massive war (waged) by the
Soviet Union.

All the West, with rare exceptions, supports this oppressive campaign, for which no evidence links what happened
in the United States to the people of Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan have nothing to do with this matter
but the campaign continues annihilating villagers, women and children, without right."

Following is an excerpt of a tape of Osama bin Laden as translated by the U.S.
government. In the tape, given to al-Jazeera Satellite Channel Television, bin Laden
notes that his statement was made on the three month anniversary of the September
11th attacks, suggesting that he was alive as of early December.

Osama bin Laden:
Three months after the blessed strikes against world infidelity and the head of infidelity,
namely America, and two months after the fierce crusade against Islam, it gives us pleasure to speak about
some of the ramifications of these events. These events have revealed extremely important things to Muslims.
It has become clear that the west in general led by America bears an unspeakable crusader grudge against
Islam.

Those who lived these months under the continuous bombardment by the various kinds of the U.S. aircraft are
well aware of this. Many villages were wiped out without any guilt. Millions of people were expelled during this
very cold weather, the oppressed ones of men, women, and children. They now live in tents in Pakistan. The
committed no guilt. Although it was a mere suspicion, America launched this fierce campaign.

Those who claim that they are advocates of humanity and freedom we saw here their real crimes. Only a
shrapnel is more than enough [to kill] a human being. The weight of this shrapnel is 7 grams. Out of its
rancor against the Taliban and Muslims, America dropped on our brothers on the frontlines bombs, weighing
7 tons each.

For those who can calculate, this means 7,000 kilos or 7 million grams while man needs only seven grams,
which are more than enough. When the youths -- may God accept them as martyrs -- detonated in Nairobi
less than two tons [of explosives], America said that this was a terrorist strike with a weapon of mass
destruction. However, it did not refrain from dropping two shells each weighing seven million grams.

After bombarding entire villages without any justification but with the purpose of terrorizing people only
and making them scared of hosting the Arabs or coming close to them the [U.S.] defense minister stated that
this is our right. It is their right to annihilate people so long as they are Muslims and non-American. This is
crime per se. It is clear and conspicuous and all the statements you hear them say it was carried out by
mistake is pure lies.

A few days ago, they hit what the claimed to be al-Qaeda positions in Khost and dropped a guided missile
at a mosque. They said that this was a mistake. After investigations, it was confirmed that the ulema were
reciting their Ramadan night prayers. They had a meeting after these prayers with the hero struggler
Shaykh Jalal-al-Din Haqqani, one of the most prominent former leaders of the jihad against the Soviet Union,
who rejected the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan. They bombarded the mosque while the Muslims were
praying, killing 150. This was their fate but Shaykh Jala was not hurt. May God grant him long life. This is
the crusader grudge.

Those who repeat words without realizing their consequences would be careful when they say that they
condemn terrorism. Our terrorism against America is benign. It seeks to make the unjust stop making
injustice. It seeks to make America stop its support for Israel while kills our people.
